Nike is definitely on another spectrum of footwear innovation. There are many uncanny concepts that the Swoosh brand has thrown at us over the years. Some, like the Air Max technology, have really revolutionized the way we perceive footwear comfort, while others, such as the self-lacing shoes, have not quite lived up to the expectations Nike had. Taking nothing away from the company’s innovation-first stance, the company has been progressing with the vision to target every product at the recovery and performance of an athlete.

Along those lines, Nike just recently launched the Project Amplify and the neuroscience-based footwear, which we are going to discuss in this article. The Project Amplify, which we have apprised you with previously, is the first powered pair of shoes for walking and running. It’s created to help athletes of all stripes go “a bit faster and farther,” with less effort. The neuroscience-based footwear is designed to augment the body and mind of the wearer before the game.

“What if you could enhance your pregame routine with mind-altering science?” This is exactly what Nike is asking on the product page of the two footwear: Mind 001 and Mind 002 (Men and Women sizes) designed under the Nike Mind platform. This new shoe is Nike’s first neuroscience-based footwear, which is designed to tap into the mind and body connection of the wearer by activating the sensory receptors in the feet.

These shoes help athletes train in them pre- and post-game to lock their mindset as 22 individually articulated nodes on the outsoles of these shoes – working like aquapuncture – move up and down, pushing against your foot with every step. The connection of nodes with the feet engages the brain’s sensory areas to help the person stay present and connected with their surroundings. Engaging the wearer’s senses can help keep the mind active at all times, so they can be more present in the moment and not be linked to what will happen or what happened during the game/competition.

Made by the Mind Science Department of the company, Mind 001 and Mind 002 have been through a scientific and manufacturing process perfected over a decade now that athletes can don to better, train, compete, or recover. Both silhouettes flaunt a soft foam midsole for comfortable, robust cushioning, while their knitted upper ensures breathability. The nodes on the footbed are positioned within fabric for easy maneuverability and soft cushioning against the foot.

According to Nike, both shoes will be made available starting January 2026 through Nike.com. Mind 001 would be offered in Solar Red/Hyper Crimson/Black/Chrome colorway, while the Mind 002 will sell in Light Smoke Grey/Photon Dust/Hyper Crimson/Chrome hues.
