OZ’s office expansion unites its entire team under one roof for the first time in 60 years. Located in the heart of RiNo, this adaptive reuse project honors a historic industrial building while evolving the space into a dynamic, collaborative workspace that reflects OZ’s commitment to innovation, technology, collaboration, sustainability, and community engagement. Previously home to Thompson Pipe and Steel, which produced coated “spiral welded steel pipe” and built Destroyer Escort ships during WWII, the building’s manufacturing cranes were left, restored, and showcased as part of the new design. Three tenant spaces were combined while preserving history, including the building’s original manufacturing cranes, industrial materials, and the iconic OZ MG car that has been a staple in previous OZ lobby locations.

Drawing on our extensive experience in hospitality design, the lobby welcomes clients and staff into an inviting, multifunctional space for work, client meetings, and community events. A focal point within the lobby comprises 60 wall-mounted architectural models that showcase the design of our award-winning projects. Fully magnetic, this allows new 3D-printed project models to be rotated throughout and updated to reflect new projects in development. Local artists’ work is showcased throughout the office to honor the artistic community.

OZ’s design philosophy prioritizes flexibility and diverse workstyles, with distinct zones for focused work, collaborative meetings, and spontaneous brainstorming. Thoughtfully integrating sustainable materials and variety in space typology, the design fosters a welcoming and accessible environment for all. Seating options and adaptable workspaces empower staff and visitors with the freedom to choose how and where they work, promoting inclusivity and equity throughout the space. Technology upgrades include state-of-the-art meeting rooms, private pods, and three main connection points, encouraging staff to cross-pollinate and expand ideas across our studios seamlessly.

A standout feature of the renovation is the immersive “Igloo,” a high-tech 180-degree projection space that allows clients to experience project walkthroughs on a scale beyond traditional virtual reality. This innovation showcases a dedication to integrating cutting-edge technology into the design process. Thoughtful updates to finish selections and furnishings mirror our brand’s aesthetic, demonstrating how the workplace reflects OZ’s culture and values while showcasing their design capabilities.

More than just a workplace, the OZ office is a testament to creativity, a collaborative environment, a sustainable design approach, and a dedication to exceptional client experiences. The newest iteration of the office space celebrates history, honors and preserves the buildings and neighborhood’s past, and positions OZ for the future as a boutique design firm serving the needs of our clients and community.
