Casquette designed by Swiss manufacturer Girard-Perregaux was a timepiece well ahead of its time with a never-before-seen form factor. The luxury watchmaker refreshed the watchmaking scene back in the 70s with this timepiece, and a reincarnated version of the classic .
Girard-Perregaux calls it the Casquette 2.0 version and it retains most of the classic’s aesthetics. Now French luxury house Saint Laurent Rive Droite has again reimagined the watch for modern horologists. The remake comes straight out of the creative bits of the company’s Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello. Given the man’s diverse interests and skill level, it’s no surprise he chose Girard-Perregaux’s most iconic wristwatch as his canvas for a remake.

This special edition version of the Casquette is limited to just 100 pieces and each one of them will be numbered for exclusivity. For watch lovers who already know the significance of the timepiece, it’ll be available at Saint Laurent’s stores in Paris and Los Angeles, as well as their online store available in select countries. The price tag of $6,700 is totally justified given the historic significance of the timepiece around which it is created.
The will adorn a black ceramic and black PVD-coated grade 5 titanium finish. The night rider-like vibe of this Casquette is highlighted by the 45-component quartz by Girard-Perregaux, tubular LED display and the black ceramic bracelet adorned with rubber lining gives it a distinct feel.
Comfort is enhanced in this reinterpretation with a much lighter construction and ergonomic case arching to take the shape of the wrist. This digital version also gets the modern chronograph to bring timekeeping of different locations if you are an avid traveler. And of course, the squat case and the minute display resembling a high-end calculator watch are unique in their own rights. A luxury timepiece maybe not, but something a nerdy horologist would love to flaunt!
