My dear friends, I’ve come to the very difficult decision that it’s time for me to hang up SFGirl. As I told you a few months ago, I decided to change things up here to try to give you more of what I thought you wanted in a more condensed fashion, posting a compilation of my blog series just once a week rather than several times per week. Alas, my project has not been quite the blazing success I had hoped for, and either because of a reduction in the number of posts or for reasons only known to the universe, I’ve lost a lot of subscribers. Therefore, I’m finding it’s time for SFGirl to end as we know it. I had hoped to stay with you for much longer, but it’s become clear to me that as time, the internet, and new apps march on, perhaps my contributions are not as relevant as they used to be, and what I have to share is not as popular as it once was. And in many ways, that’s okay—popularity is not all that. I came to share what inspires me and what I hoped would inspire you. But considering the amount of time I devote to this page, and now that I’ve turned 65, I think it’s time to devote my time to myself and future endeavors, which will more than likely lean towards lots of travel, taking photographs just for fun, and living a life less online. This is not to say I’m not feeling a bit melancholy—I am conflicted about leaving, but I’ve come to the realization, as with many things, that when it comes time to end things, I’m nearly always going to question if I’m doing the right thing. As they say—there’s never really ever a ‘right time.’ I’ve had such a fun and rewarding 18-year run, doing what I love most, and I think it’s probably time to pass the baton to others with more creative energy, insightfulness, and fresh ideas to bring to you. Even with the demand so high, I can’t bring myself to do TikTok and Reels when I’ve always been more interested in still photography, and I don’t really think my curated content lends itself to video. I don’t want to leave on a negative note, but we all know how much social media’s algorithm has changed things, and those in charge don’t seem to care how much we pout about it or listen when we give them legitimate feedback, so that’s been a lot on my mind, as well. It’s difficult to drive traffic here if hardly anyone is seeing my Instagram posts. I’ll still be around on Instagram and Pinterest in a more personal way, so we’ll still be in touch there. For now, I’ll say farewell to SFGirl. Now, on to the dull but necessary subscription information.

Most of all, I’ve been so appreciative of all your support here, and I want to ensure that all subscribers, regardless of their subscription plan, are fairly compensated for any unused portion of their paid subscription. If you’ve been a paid subscriber, please simply downgrade to the free subscription option to stop your billing. I will definitely understand and not take this personally! Then you won’t be billed any longer for your Monthly or Annual subscriptions, but you’ll still have full access to any free posts (but not paid posts with paywalls). If you choose to keep your subscription for a while, you’ll still have full access to all archival posts and be able to peruse the over 300 archival posts I’ve written here over the last two years. If you’ve chosen to downgrade to a Free Subscription and you don’t see a refund within about two weeks of changing your subscription plan, please DM me (go to the SFGIrl homepage, click the ‘Chat’ icon in the upper right corner, and click on ‘Direct’ to message me) or simply comment here with any questions, and I’ll make sure you receive your refund (I’ll be notified of any comments via email). If I happen to decide to post here again once in a while, I’ll remove the paywall on all future posts so everyone will have access to anything new. Sorry for all the boring but very important stuff!

This is indeed a bittersweet goodbye. I’ve met so many wonderful friends, artists, makers, and inspiring souls through this blog, and I’m going to miss our special connection terribly. You’ve all meant so much to me over the almost two decades I’ve been blogging, and I am internally grateful to all of you for giving me a career I adored—it very rarely felt like work. But I feel like it’s time to trust my gut and go now, while perhaps the going is still good. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing next in my upcoming ‘golden years,’ but I hope it’s as inspiring and uplifting as it has been to create this space for you. As I said before, sometimes you just know when it’s time to leave the party.

Much love and inspiration to you all, always, xo Victoria
