Special Group, an independent advertising agency renowned for its innovative and effective work, sought to develop a new workspace that would sustain its growth, foster a sense of creativity and inclusivity, and reflect its vision for a more equitable Aotearoa. The agency wanted a space that stood out from traditional commercial environments and truly embodied its unique identity and culture.

From the outset, our approach was centred on aligning the new workspace with Special Group’s core values and creative ethos. We collaborated closely with the agency to find a site that resonated with their distinct vibe and character. By focusing on zonal mapping and the arrival experience, we designed a space that seamlessly supports employee journeys, maximising both efficiency and creative output.

Guided by the themes of boldness, ambition, creativity, and innovation, the design concept celebrated the building’s historical elements while introducing modern touches. We carefully selected soft colour palettes complemented by vibrant accents and tactile patterns, ensuring each area had its unique yet cohesive character. This blend created an environment where creativity could thrive.

Materiality played a key role in our design. Rich oranges and browns contrasted with neutral tones, enriching the visual complexity and fostering an inspiring atmosphere. Our innovative approach allowed us to address technical aspects effectively, ensuring the space was not only visually striking but also highly functional.

The resulting workspace harmoniously blends the building’s character with contemporary design elements, creating an inspiring and productive environment. The seamless integration of historical and modern features highlights Special Group’s creative spirit and commitment to innovation.

The design promotes inclusivity and aligns with Special Group’s mission for a more equitable Aotearoa. By emphasising the use of existing architectural features, we minimised waste and reduced the need for new materials, positively impacting the environment. Enhanced operational efficiency supports the agency’s commercial objectives and strengthens its brand identity.

In essence, the new workspace is more than just an office; it’s a vibrant, dynamic environment that embodies Special Group’s values and vision. It stands as a testament to the agency’s commitment to creativity, inclusivity, and innovation, providing an exceptional space for employees to thrive and collaborate, ensuring Special Group continues to inspire and lead in the world of advertising.
