The Geo Stratum range has its creative wellspring in 16 unique rock formations found across and , which have been translated into a dynamic, curated exploration of surface and structure.
A story which has unfolded over millennia is portrayed, from rippling basalt cliffs where lava flows met the ocean waves, through to fossilised and fractured shales, quartz sandstones and the organic symmetry of nature’s foundational architecture. The aesthetics also celebrate the dynamic nature of our planet’s surface, capturing the rhythm of erosion, the power of water and the subtle geometry of wind-carved stone, giving form to the breath of time.
Three distinct narratives emerge from the Geo Stratum story: Erosion of Time, Power of Water and Colour of Land. These have been crafted using Designer Jet® technology to deliver exceptional bespoke carpet tiles which are also the first Godfrey Hirst standard range to utilise ’s new 35oz cut pile griege.
Made in Australia, the carpet tiles are also Red List Free, making them suitable for sensitive environments and projects targeting exceptional indoor environment quality and human wellbeing.
The Erosion of Time series captures the colours, textures and patterns which emerge through the patient power of wind, sun and time as these forces through millennia move over and through geological formations. Sharp edges on basalt columns evolve into fascinating, flowing contours; rippling streams carve cool and shaded gorges through stone; and wind smooths the face of stones to reveal the passage of time and seasons.
Where land meets sea and the moon exerts her influence on tides and waves, the Power of Water series finds its visual wellsprings. Layered textures, fluid forms and shifting hues evoke the movement of oceans, rivers and tides over rocks, stones and sands. The action of waves, the sinuous curves of shimmering channels, the fanning tendrils of estuaries and the dynamic interplay of stone and spray are all evoked in a selection that showcases landscapes born from the meeting of stone and water.
The dramatic ochres and umbers of the Australasian landscape are imbued with artistry in the Colour of Land sub-collection. This sophisticated celebration of the raw palette of soil, sand and stone is interwoven with colours echoing the tenacious, ancient lifeforms of lichens that cling to mineral-rich cliffs, striped stones and shadowed gullies. Unique hues and bold, timeless patterns bring the bones of the outback into the urban world, creating a dynamic, nature-centric effect.
The respect for and celebration of the environment also goes beyond the visual and artistic intent. Godfrey Hirst has committed to ensuring Geo Stratum delivers a regenerative legacy through a new partnership with Landcare Australia’s Tree Planting Fund. This fund supports local tree planting and vegetation restoration efforts in regional and rural areas, as well as urban bushland.
As part of Godfrey Hirst’s Believe in Better ® framework, the collaboration with Landcare Australia will see one dollar donated annually to the Tree Planting Fund for every square metre sold of the Geo Stratum collection. That means, for example, carpet tiles every 10m2 in an office or hospitality space will help plant one new tree, creating habitat for wildlife, protecting catchments, restoring biodiversity and preventing soil erosion.
The support of Landcare Australia’s Tree Planting Fund demonstrates deep alignment between being inspired by the landscape and giving back to it, making Geo Stratum a carpet tile range that encompasses both the aesthetic and the ethical dimensions in a tangible and beautiful way.
