Tihany Design proudly unveils its newly reimagined Roman studio, a space that reflects the firm’s timeless design sensibility and enduring relationship with the Eternal City. Located steps from Piazza Navona, within a 19th-century palazzo, the 2,500-square-foot office has been entirely reconceived to express the studio’s distinctive philosophy – an elegant dialogue between heritage, craftsmanship, and contemporary vision.
Headquartered in New York, Tihany Design is a globally recognized atelier with over four decades of history crafting some of the world’s most refined hospitality and residential interiors. The firm established its Roman presence in the early 2000s to support a growing portfolio of European and international projects. Since then, the Rome studio has played a pivotal role in shaping some of Tihany Design’s most acclaimed works, including Oro Restaurant at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Aleph Hotel, Boscolo Exedra, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London, Four Seasons DIFC Dubai, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and a range of landmark hospitality and cruise projects. Together, these achievements exemplify the firm’s global reach and its ability to create environments that are both visionary and enduring.
Today, under the direction of Alessia Genova, Owner of the firm, the Rome studio enters a new chapter. Having begun her career at Tihany Design Rome, Genova brings a uniquely curatorial sensibility and a deeply personal approach to design. Her leadership builds upon the legacy of founder Adam D. Tihany, preserving the firm’s essence while propelling it into a new era of innovation and creative dialogue.
The new premises feature soaring fifteen-foot ceilings adorned with frescoes, artisanal terrazzo floors, and historic Roman wall paintings – an architectural backdrop that embodies the layered beauty of the city itself. The interiors, conceived and designed entirely by the studio, are appointed with bespoke furnishings: high-gloss lacquer cabinetry with bronze detailing and leather shelving, Jean Prouvé–inspired worktables clad in Italian saddle leather, and finely sanded oak meeting tables that harmonize with the terrazzo floors and frescoed ceilings. In keeping with Tihany Design’s bespoke ethos, custom furniture pieces were created specifically for the space, reflecting the atelier’s philosophy of tailoring every element to the character and narrative of each project.
Art plays a central and curatorial role within the studio’s composition, underlining the importance of artistic collaboration in Tihany Design’s creative process. Bram Tihany, the founder’s son, contributes photographic works taken in Rome as a personal homage to the city, alongside crafted pieces that explore diverse materials and media. These are complemented by a pair of Delfina Scarpa works that frame one of the principal rooms and a series of six oil paintings by Charles Mason forming a rhythmic visual sequence above the connecting doorways. The result is an environment that seamlessly merges architecture, design, and art—an expression of Tihany Design’s ongoing dialogue between craftsmanship and culture.
Comprising a team of seven designers, the Rome studio continues to serve as a strategic hub for Tihany Design’s international practice, overseeing projects across five continents. Its proximity to the Sapienza University of Rome’s School of Architecture fosters ongoing exchange with emerging talent, ensuring a continual infusion of creativity and innovation.
Rooted in more than four decades of design excellence and guided by Alessia Genova’s vision, Tihany Design Rome stands as both a symbol of continuity and a statement of renewal—a reflection of the firm’s unwavering commitment to craft, culture, and the art of hospitality.
Today, alongside its flagship headquarters in New York and the Roman studio, Tihany Design continues to expand its global presence with a new outpost in Bangkok, further strengthening its ability to serve clients across continents with proximity, insight, and a deeply personal design language.
