Unlocking a new chapter with Tripadvisor in London
Our collaboration with Tripadvisor brought us to London’s Folgate Building, located in the vibrant heart of Shoreditch near Spitalfields Market and Liverpool Street. Building on our experience, we refined the design language and process to create a workspace that perfectly reflects Tripadvisor’s culture and evolving needs. This project represents a seamless fusion of creativity and collaboration, strengthening a trusted partnership and delivering a dynamic, inspiring environment for their teams.
Setting sail towards a brighter workspace
Tripadvisor’s previous London office no longer met the needs of its people or business ambitions. Spread across disconnected floors with limited natural light, it felt outdated. The new European hub was designed to inspire, support flexible working and accommodate growth with a variety of spaces, from quiet focus zones to vibrant social areas, creating a workplace that reflects Tripadvisor’s values and future vision.
Decoding Shoreditch
Inspired by the vibrant character of Shoreditch, the design concept, Decoding Shoreditch, brings a distinctly London flavour to the workspace. A warm, hospitality-led atmosphere invites collaboration and comfort, anchored by a muted palette of desaturated blues, deep burgundies, dark greens and soft beiges. Timber flooring adds rustic warehouse charm, paying tribute to the industrial heritage of nearby Spitalfields.
Architectural touches reference the city’s narrow alleys, with enclosed meeting rooms styled as traditional shop fronts, featuring Georgian-style doors and Crittall windows that flood spaces with natural light, evoking the feel of a bustling street. The design celebrates the building’s unique features, such as exposed columns, ceilings and simple services, adding character and authenticity. Organic shapes flow through the space, reflecting London’s dynamic energy and creating a lively, rooted environment.
Spaces designed to energise and empower
The office spans three floors designed to accommodate diverse working styles. Level four is the social hub, featuring a striking dark blue-tiled bar, banquet booths, collaborative tables, intimate sofa clusters, a large huddle area, a flexible AV-enabled conference room and an outdoor terrace overlooking Shoreditch.
Level three supports energetic teamwork with centrally located shopfront-inspired meeting rooms, quiet whisper rooms on the perimeter and workstations placed along the outer edges for maximum natural light. The social tea point encourages informal interactions.
Level two offers a quieter, more focused atmosphere with acoustic planting dividers, curtains and a calming colour palette. It also includes a bright, thoughtfully appointed mother’s room. Throughout, local design details, carefully selected lighting, acoustic panels and greenery reinforce a connection to Shoreditch’s character and foster wellbeing.
A design that captures Tripadvisor’s spirit
Tripadvisor’s new space now effectively aligns with the modern workplace’s evolving needs, blending functionality with a sophisticated, hospitality-inspired aesthetic. The design incorporates flexible work settings, balanced acoustics and adjustable lighting to support diverse work styles and enhance employee wellbeing. By integrating biophilic design elements and reflecting Oxford’s architectural heritage, the office creates a dynamic and welcoming environment. This project underscores Tripadvisor’s commitment to fostering creativity, collaboration and productivity, ultimately setting a high standard for future workplace design.
