we’re headed to one of my favorite Parisian neighborhoods today, to a very charming restaurant at the foot of the Montmartre hill and we’re in for some tapas and wine or perhaps a fancy cocktail if the mood should strike. today we dine at a café with a nod to the Basque origins and childhood memories in Japan of the two founders — HIRU, ‘three’ in the Basque language evokes their third experience together and in Japanese, HIRU means “noon, lunch”, ie ‘the state where there is sun’ so it’s the perfect spot for a bit of brunch. tapas are conducive to sharing with both indoor seating at the bar or petite table, as well as a beautiful sunny terrace. sounds perfect, n’cest pas? we’re going to get right in step with the vibe here in a funky and fun puffed sleeve , a leather paired with some sassy woven , and a chic in case we dine al fresco. whilst you sip your cocktail, i highly recommended reading by mark helprin, one of my favorite novels, set in present-day Paris. seventy-four-year-old Jules Lacour — a maître at Paris-Sorbonne, cellist, widower, a veteran of the war in Algeria, and child of the Holocaust must find a balance between his strong obligations to the past and the attractions of life and love in the present. In the midst of what should be his golden days, he’s confronted headlong by a series of moral challenges to his principles, livelihood, and home, forcing him to grapple with his complex past and find a way forward.
