i’m not one to make elaborate new year’s eve plans. instead, i usually spend the evening with friends, making a delicious dinner together at home, sharing a few cocktails, and reminiscing and laughing about our year (the really good & the oh-so-bad) and what’s ahead. this year, HotelTonight invited me to treat myself and a friend to a staycation at one of the many amazing hotels in town—and i think i may have found my new, new year’s eve tradition!

if you’re not yet familiar, HotelTonight is an awesome mobile app for booking top notch hotels at discounted rates. it’s been my go-to source for booking last-minute hotels for years and now they even offer extended booking windows — which means i was able to book a room at the Viceroy Santa Monica for new year’s eve way ahead of time, but at the same low rate. how cool is that? i think this year we especially need and deserve something fun and rejuvenating to look forward to, don’t you? i’m also happy to pass along a reader discount to you — $25 off your first booking of $135 or more. Just use referral code VISMITH2.

i’m really looking forward to unwinding at the beach after hosting my family for the holidays. don’t get me wrong, it’s going to be a lot of fun having everyone at my house for Christmas this year, but once the last guest leaves and the mess is all cleaned up, i’m going to have a big smile on my face when i’m high-tailing it out of town with my friend, designer Melissa Fleis to ring in the new year in style at the Viceroy! if you’re curious about this elegant hotel designed by kelly wearstler, be sure to check out my Instagram stories because i’ll be sharing the whole experience there during my stay.

the Viceroy is right across the street from santa monica beach (where i grew up going with my family every weekend and is definitely on my list of happy places) and a short walk or a bike ride away (the Viceroy offers complimentary beach cruisers!) from some of my favorite westside spots. we’ll definitely be taking advantage of those bikes and hitting up the shops and cafes along abbot kinney in venice, and i’m thinking of checking out one of my favorite classic restaurants (est. 1959!) chez jay’s for a new year’s cocktail because it’s just a hop, skip and a jump down the block.

if you’re not sure what you’re doing for new year’s eve yet, might i suggest booking yourself a luxuriously convenient staycation using HotelTonight? simply download the app, enter your location and dates, and you’ll get a list of fantastic hotels to choose from with rates that won’t break the bank. but no matter what you decide to do this new year’s eve, i hope it’s an evening filled with exactly what you need to get your 2018 rolling in a relaxed, pampered and positive direction! and remember to use referral code VISMITH2 for $25 off your first booking of $135 or more. happy new year!
