
i’m not a huge mall shopper — i’d much prefer to support small and medium-sized makers and shop local. in our on-going series over the years, local photographer and i have shared many of our favorite small businesses around los angeles and i thought i’d round up a few suggestions for some of those that really specialize in unique and handmade gifts for your last minute holiday shopping, online or in person.

— have a green thumb on your christmas list? then, by all means, stop by the botanist to shop at their gorgeous, light-filled on lake avenue in pasadena and grab green goods galore.

— silver lake’s latest cafe & gourmet market opened earlier this year and has fast become a neighborhood favorite. on your way to holiday bash? stop into for a bottle of bubbly, wine or a gourmet treat.

— our friend audrey owns , an adorable shop in venice that carries every kind of home accessories, gifts, wrapping paper, card or stationery one could hope for. stop in for all your last minute gift wrapping goods!

— sasha darling has brought her expertly curated goods and vintage wares all the way from san francisco to a two-story brick and mortar on bustling vermont avenue in los feliz. be sure and visit for a festive frock and gorgeous gifts galore.

— we love L.A.-based high-end interior design firm founded by mat sanders and brandon quattrone. there aren’t many shops that urge us to say “i’ll take one of everything!” but their shop on melrose is absolutely one of them. stop in for all the design aficionados on your gift list.

— i love this little shop! they carry beautiful designer clothes, jewelry, bags, and candles. a really special little boutique where you’ll find unique gifts you won’t just see everywhere.

— just next door to lake is , a darling boutique on silver lake boulevard, carrying wonderful home accessories, clothing, wrapping, cards and stationery, and really adorable gifts for kids as well.

— created in 2010 by dream-team sister-duo lily + hopie stockman, designs are hand carved onto wooden blocks, the textiles hand-dyed and each piece hand-printed resulting in stunning, one of a kind creations including rugs, pillows, baby blankets, paper prints, scarves.

— have a friend who’s fond of the 80’s? here’s a blast from the past: shop the for kitschy collectibles at this fun shop on sunset near hollywood boulevard in los feliz.

— pop into DTLA arts districts for a range of lovely printed material, apparel, household items and handmade gifts.
