bentwood, or have been around the block — a few times. michael thonet created the first thonet chair with its curved, graceful shapes by forming the wood in hot steam. the first thonet, or “coffee shop chair no. 14” was made in 1859! i’ve got a few vintage beauties around and i like them mix and matched with a few saarinen swivel chairs (both sets of chairs found on ). other great resources for vintage bentwood chairs are and , and for brand new ones, check out . if you don’t require more dining chairs in your abode, thonets look great bedside stacked with your favorite books, or are perfectly lovely as a desk chair. happy hunting!
