when i lived in san francisco i would walk by erica tanov’s beautiful pacific heights boutique and stop in every single time. and if the shop wasn’t open, i’d just oggle her incredibly styled windows and peek inside to see what treasures lived inside. her fashion sense and style sensibilities are perfectly ‘me’ and i’ve long been an admirer of her impeccable aesthetic. so when i heard she had a new book out, i couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. erica’s book, Design by Nature: Creating Layered, Lived-in Spaces Inspired by the Natural World is the ideal complement to her lifestyle and clothing collections which epitomize relaxed, bohemian luxury. In unexpected and profound ways, Erica Tanov teaches us how to train our eyes to the beauty in nature, and brings the outdoors in -— incorporating patterns and motifs from nature, as well as actual elements from the natural world into simple ideas for everyday decorating and design. Design by Nature’s topics range from embracing imperfection in your home, to seeking out flea markets, to displaying your collections, and takes an enduring and intuitive approach to design that transcends fleeting trends and encourages you to find your own unique and personal style, source of creativity, and connection to the natural world. it’s the kind of book i’ll be referring to again and again and a must-have for any design aficionado’s bookcase.
