Around 80 employees of PULSION Medical Systems SE, a subsidiary of the Swedish medical technology company Getinge, have moved into their new offices in the HEADS office building in Munich. The CSMM team was responsible for the concept, interior design, and all process support. What began as a project to design the office space evolved into a comprehensive transformation: an office that makes corporate culture tangible, actively engages employees, and serves as a strategic instrument for identification and collaboration.

More than just a test fit: Why holistic thinking makes the difference
When Getinge approached CSMM, an initial floor plan already existed. It showed the area, but not yet the potential behind it. The team of architects rethought the project from the ground up: not just as an interior fit-out, but as a strategic design challenge.

Employees as co-creators – change management as an attitude
CSMM guided the Getinge teams through the entire process, from needs assessment to the jointly developed user manual. Workshops were held to discuss room layouts and to address the specific requirements of individual teams – from test rooms for product development to specific technical needs. During the construction phase, employees actively participated in the selection of materials and furniture.

In parallel, CSMM supported the communication between the local Munich team and the international decision-makers at the Swedish headquarters through regular monthly updates, which kept all participants on the same page and created trust in the process.

Corporate identity as a spatial language
CSMM has consistently translated Getinge’s brand identity into the physical space in close collaboration with the international design team from Sweden. The characteristic blue tones of the company color permeate walls and ceilings, the logo has a spatial impact, and design details create a visual connection to the brand everywhere: light installations reminiscent of medical tubing, furniture elements that showcase the company’s products – both historical developments and current innovations.

People at the center: Spatial concept follows usage reality.
Getinge’s spatial concept is individually tailored to actual needs and reflects the true diversity of modern knowledge work. Focused work takes place in quiet retreat zones and phone booths. Project work is facilitated in flexibly furnished rooms that can be reconfigured depending on team size and task. And for what is structurally lacking in home offices, such as spontaneous encounters, shared experiences, and informal exchange, CSMM has created a deliberate alternative with its central communication kitchen.

The kitchen is the social heart of the office. A place where the long-standing tradition of sharing lunch takes on a new, architecturally confident form. “Such spaces aren’t just a feel-good extra,” emphasizes Nicola Bötsch. “They are the decisive added value of the office compared to working from home. Here, culture, trust, and the serendipitous conversations from which ideas grow are created.” This principle of serendipity—the deliberately facilitated chance encounter—runs as a design principle throughout the entire office. Retreat and communication, focus and exchange: the sequence of spaces is not accidental, but calculated.

Anticipatory design: Flexibility as a principle
The Getinge office is consistently designed for adaptability. All areas are multifunctional: furniture can be rearranged, and rooms can be reconfigured for meetings, presentations, or teamwork. This principle of anticipatory design is a fundamental approach.

The office as a strategic instrument
The Getinge office in HEADS – Germany’s first Immune Office of the Rock Capital Group – demonstrates that office design is no longer merely a cost factor, but a strategic communication tool – both internally and externally. An office where employees feel comfortable and identify with the company strengthens their connection to it, serves as a valuable asset in the war for talent, and makes corporate culture immediately tangible for new hires.
