AP+I Design created a space to reflect the values and culture of Yummly for their offices in San Carlos, California.

Yummly is more than just a food app. Yummly blends the world of culinary art and technology by providing users inspiration through a system of personalization and connectivity. Purchased by Whirlpool, the two companies aspire to develop the fully connected kitchen of the future. Yummly’s new headquarters in San Carlos, California facilitates the aspirations of these companies by featuring two fully functioning kitchens, a bar and a recording studio.

The building’s existing concrete walls and floors with exposed glulam beams and skylights were seamlessly integrated into the design, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the office with volume and natural light. Upon entering the space, employees and guests are greeted by an expansive lounge and dining area situated between the bar and the main kitchen as the heart of the office invites employees and guests to engage and interact with one another. The main kitchen is equipped with multiple residential appliances including dual facing cooktops used for testing recipes and cook-offs, generating a little friendly competition amongst the teams. The custom bar features copper and concrete finishes creating an elegant yet practical focal piece offering coffee and sustenance for after-hour gatherings; including company events, meetings and social gatherings. A second kitchen for content preparation was added in support of the recording studio. The studio is also equipped with residential appliances including a custom designed mobile island with an integrated ductless electric cooktop. Both the main kitchen and the studio are used for film and photography for development of Yummly’s app content. Not just a space for cooking, the office is divided into several neighborhoods surrounded by a variety of open collaborative spaces and enclosed meeting rooms, partitioned by glass walls framed in black for a contemporary look. The open and transparent workspace is designed to foster community, creativity, and growth.

With a pinch of playfulness in a delightful way, the workplace truly embodies Yummly’s values of collaboration and transparency, building a strong foundation to prosper while crafting a community of like-minded people the office brings creativity to the table, family style.
