Incusa is a family-owned business with over ninety years of history and four generations dedicated to the art of leather tanning. Founded in 1932 and based in Silla (Valencia), the company works with some of the most renowned fashion houses in the world. Its specialty: high-end leathers for footwear, handbags, and accessories.
Within the industrial complex that houses its entire production, one of the buildings contains the main offices, which called for a radical transformation—both functional and aesthetic.
The entrance to this building, previously indistinct within the complex, became our first design gesture. We understood that it needed to become an iconic point—a welcoming space that would mark the beginning of the client experience. To achieve this, we proposed an envelope with references to the mid-century universe, reviving the retro feel of the original offices and incorporating small-format handcrafted ceramic cladding, used both at the entrance and in the wet areas.
One of the project’s conceptual pillars was to highlight the company’s own product: leather. Some of the furniture pieces were custom-designed and upholstered with leathers produced by Incusa, serving as a tactile and material tribute that allows visitors to experience the brand’s craftsmanship firsthand. In the reception area, a large-scale leather curtain adds texture, theatricality, and a sculptural presence to the space.
The color palette revolves around the natural tones of tanning: deep browns, rich blacks, and reddish hues, evoking the material world of Incusa. As a counterbalance to the harshness of the industrial surroundings and the lack of exterior greenery, we introduced large-scale natural elements inside. Two custom-planted trees—one at the entrance and another in the common area—bring freshness, life, and a sense of refuge for the employees.
The lounge area, conceived as a welcoming space to unwind, enjoy a coffee, or hold informal meetings, also acts as a prelude to the factory tour. It’s a required passage for all visitors, so we paid special attention to its visual storytelling. One of the walls was transformed into an exhibition installation for the swatch books in which the company presents its leather collections, finishes, and colors. Each season, these sample books are designed by guest artists or graphic designers, which led us to treat this surface like an editorial moodboard—a reflection of the creativity that drives the brand.
